The Biomedical Catalyst scheme, a joint programme of the Technology Strategy Board and Medical Research Council, continues to seek applications from either small and medium sized businesses or researchers.

Round 4 is now open, in which the Technology Strategy Board will accept business-led applicatons for early and late stage awards. Feasibility stage awards will next be accepted from businesses in round five (from October 2013).

The focus is technologies and processes which provide solutions for:

  • disease prevention and proactive management of health and chronic conditions
  • earlier and better detection and diagnosis of disease leading to marked improvements in patient outcomes
  • highly effective treatments that are tailored to patients’ needs and either modify the underlying disease or offer potential cures.

Registration for round 4 closes on 2nd October 2013.

Researchers in HSC bodies should apply through the Medical Research Council’s translation funding programmes: Developmental Pathway Funding Scheme, Translational Stem Cell Research Programme, Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation programme.
